VIRIDIS Acquires Oper8 Global in $50 Million Deal to Expand Data Centre Capabilities

Global clean energy investment firm, United H2 Limited (UHL), has completed an acquisition of Oper8 Global Pty Ltd (“Oper8”), strengthening its position in the secure and sustainable data centre market.
The transaction has been executed through UHL’s investee company, VIRIDIS Green Data Centres Limited (“VIRIDIS”), positioning it to scale operations across Australia and internationally.
The deal has created a combined entity value of $50m.
Oper8, a 12-year operating business, is a leading provider of modular data centres, custom data centre build, data centre management, cybersecurity, cloud services, and digital infrastructure consultancy. Oper8’s mission is to establish an Australian sovereign ownership model for delivering high-security, AI-enabled data centres.

Key Highlights:

  • Oper8’s blue-chip client engagements include CSIRO, Telstra, Vocus, Cubic Transportation Systems (Australia), Cuscal, NBN, the University of Melbourne, the Australian and Queensland Governments, the University of Canberra, Fisher & Paykel, Cloud4C and more.
  • Oper8 has a global footprint across Australian and the Asia Pacific, supported by strategic partnerships with Thales, Entrust, Dell, Equinix, RFCODE, and others.
  • The acquisition provides VIRIDIS with the foundation to build, own, and operate high-performance, ultra-secure data centres globally.
  • Oper8’s product offering aligns with VIRIDIS’ proprietary AI-driven Least Cost Power Software and clean energy microgrid technology, enhancing energy efficiency and reducing operational costs.
  • VIRIDIS will deploy ultra-secure, modular data centre pods, designed to meet military-grade standards for sensitive and high-priority data processing.

Market Opportunity & Strategic Rationale

The global data centre industry is experiencing rapid growth, driven by AI, cloud computing, and high-performance computing (HPC). The market is forecast to reach USD $452.5 billion by 2025, with a CAGR of 8.37%, reaching USD $624.1 billion by 2029.
Meanwhile, Big Tech companies are expected to invest over USD $695 billion in data centre expansions and supporting infrastructure. However, data centres are among the most energy-intensive industries: in 2020, they accounted for 0.9% of global energy-related emissions, a figure projected to rise significantly. VIRIDIS was founded to solve this problem by developing green data centres through its clean energy microgrid model.
VIRIDIS is positioned to lead the transition towards secure, sovereign, and sustainable data infrastructure in Australia and beyond. By leveraging green energy solutions, the company will help enterprises and governments navigate carbon regulations, energy security challenges, and digital sovereignty requirements.
Will Davidson, CEO of United H2 Limited, said: “VIRIDIS is redefining Australia’s data infrastructure with secure, reliable, and sustainable facilities designed to support the growing demand for AI and high-performance computing. By integrating renewable energy solutions, we are ensuring industry growth without increasing emissions or energy risks. This acquisition strengthens Australia’s leadership in both green technology and digital security.”
Mike Bull, Managing Director of VIRIDIS Green Data Centres Limited, added: “Securing Australia’s digital future is critical. Sovereign data capabilities protect our national infrastructure, defence, and enterprise operations, ensuring that our most valuable information remains under Australian control. VIRIDIS is committed to delivering clean, green, and resilient data centres that support both economic growth and environmental sustainability.”
